There's much to see here. So, take your time, think over if this program is right for you and your family. Read all there is here and contact us if there's something else you'd like to know.
We hope to hear you.
Here at A Doodle’s Tail, we strive to provide only the best for our adult breeding dogs who serve as loving members of our family. To ensure we are able to give these dogs the best possible home life while being able to expand and produce the best possible puppies, we like to limit the number of dogs we have living in our home. We are now offering a guardian program where qualified families will receive a FREE puppy/dog while we retain the breeding rights.
Guardian families are expected to properly care for their new puppy/dog physically and financially. We will cover all costs associated to breeding and care for/own all litters produced by guardian family dogs. Basically, you will get an adorable dog to add to your family at no cost, and we get to use him/her in our breeding program. Pretty simple! Guardian dogs will remain your forever family pet but will come to us every so often to sire/whelp their litters.
Qualifications:
*Guardian families must have*
-A fenced yard
-Previous experience with owning a dog or have adequate knowledge on caring for a dog
*Guardian families must be able to*
-Provide a puppy/dog with proper health care, nutrition, and exercise
-Properly train (both professionally and at home) and socialize a puppy/dog with appropriate tools and methods
-Keep up with grooming (both professionally and at home) including regular brushing/bathing
*Guardian families must live in Texas- Preferably near Montgomery or Harris counties. We will happily consider other counties if guardians are willing to help with appointments and transportation*
* If your family needs to move out of Montgomery or Harris counties but still within Texas, you must handle all transportation of the dog. If you are unable to do so and the dog is still needed as a breeder, then he/she will be rehomed or if agreed upon you will then change contract to being a pet owner and pay full or discounted (if they have produced litters) price for your pet and have them spay/neuter immediately.
*If you need to move out of state before he/she is retired than he/she will be rehomed or if agreed upon you will then change contract to being a pet owner and pay a full or discounted (if they have produced litters) price for your pet and have them spay/neuter immediately.
* We always reserve the right to seize and rehome any of our breeder dogs if we feel like they are not holding up to these rules.
Owning a female guardian dog:
Once your dog is of age, has passed all of her health testing, and is ready to breed (typically on the second heat cycle) we will have your dog over for about a week during the breeding process and later, for the duration of whelping her litter. After your dog has been bred, she will return to her guardian family who will care for her during her pregnancy. She will then come back to us a week before she is due to whelp her litter. Once old enough, female dogs will spend at least 6-8+ weeks per year in our care to whelp, raise, and wean their puppies (guardian families are always welcome to visit). Guardians must be able to detect a heat cycle and keep females away from intact male dogs during this time. Females retire at around the age of 4-6 (typically after having 3-4 litters), after retirement the female will be spayed and continue to live the remainder of her life with her guardian family.
Owning a male guardian dog:
Once your dog is of age, has passed all of his health testing, and is ready to breed (whenever he has matured about 1 1/2 years old) our male dogs will spend a few days with us at a time when needed during breeding, typically a few times a year. Guardians must be able to keep male dogs away from intact female dogs in heat. Males retire at around the age of 5-7, after retirement the male will be neutered and continue to live the remainder of his life with his guardian family.
Other requirements:
-We ask that you let the puppy’s coat grow out until around 6-12 months, although hair around the face, on the belly, and under the tail must be kept trimmed. Brushing and bathing should be done regularly.
-We ask that you allow us to make arrangements to pick up the puppy/dog throughout various stages in his/her life to get photos taken to display on our website/social media channels.
-We reserve the right to do home check during any daytime hours unannounced to check of care and well being of guardian dogs.
-Guardian dogs are to be always kept on a healthy diet including feeding of our chosen food brand and any required supplements.
-Guardian families are responsible for all general vet care (aside from any breeding related visits).
-Guardian dogs must respond to their given name which is not be changed unless discussed prior.
We are now excpting applications for our guardian program. Please know that we are very strict on those we accept to care for our amazing breeding dogs.
